So, it turns out that there was never any serious danger of AIDS spreading in the general, heterosexual population in the First World, and policymakers always knew that. Yes, looks like the billions of dollars spent "raising awareness" about AIDS in the West was probably pretty much totally unnecessary. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be only a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money spent "raising awareness" about global warming.
